Alternative Treatments
|
![]() Natural treatments are another main category of alternative allergy treatments. The first type is herbal supplements. The Chinese herbal supplement, FAHF-2, has been shown to stop the life-threatening allergic reaction called anaphylaxis [2]. Researchers at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City used a blend of Chinese herbs to reduce allergies and inflammation [1].
Another natural treatment that has shown some promise is acupuncture. Acupuncture involves inserting tiny needles into specific areas of the body, which is used for pain relief [3]. There has been a reported reduction in allergic reactions after acupuncture, but it has seen limited use in the treatment of food allergies [2]. The third category of natural treatments are supplements that people can take that can subside food allergies. MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) is a substance mainly found in plants; it can be used to prevent allergens from entering the bloodstream. The B5 Vitamin also can help the body with allergy control. Another supplement is peppermint oil, which soothes the digestive tract and reduces inflammatory symptoms that arise due to food allergies [5]. Nutritional plant enzyme therapy has been shown to be a major healing supplement for chronic conditions, including food allergy. This enzyme ensures the proper digestion of food since it breaks down protein allergens; this decreases allergic reactions and reduces the release of inflammatory products such as histamine. A study has shown that asthma caused by food improved by 92% and eczema due to food improved by 83%. Another huge benefit for nutritional plant enzyme supplementation is that it can effectively replace the body’s own pancreatic enzymes. This allows the pancreatic enzymes to perform other body functions and in this way, increases immunity. Lastly, these enzymes promote the growth of healthy intestinal flora, which improves the immune system, improves digestion, and helps decrease allergic reactions due to food [6]. |
