Alternative Treatments
|
An important question is whether one should choose an alternative treatment over an EpiPen. Some of these methods have been shown to work, but only in a limited capacity, and as a result, there is no definitive method. Shots and treatments have been widely available for pollen and airborne allergens for decades, but researchers are still trying to find such treatments for food allergies [1].
Therefore, an EpiPen is likely the best treatment method. The epinephrine medication, administered by EpiPens, is the only medication that can reverse the symptoms of anaphylaxis [4]. Another big upside for EpiPens is that they are readily available and can be easily located and used during an allergic reaction. However, some of these alternative treatments can be effective in their attempt to prevent the risk of food allergies and reduce the potential use of EpiPens. |
