![]() One’s diet can play a big role in preventing food allergies. Eating certain foods can reduce allergic reactions, while the intake of certain other foods promote allergic reactions and should be limited. The main component of the non-allergenic food list is green leafy vegetables. They have been shown to improve the immune system’s function [5].
The following foods are the ones to limit, because they can increase food allergies and intolerances. These include artificial flavorings, sugar, gluten, and packaged foods, which often contain GMOs (genetically modified organisms) [5]. A rotation diet is a specific type of diet that is one of the best things for people with multiple food allergies. If foods are eaten repeatedly, they can cause food allergies in those that are allergy-prone. Therefore, a rotation diet, as the name suggests involves biologically related foods on the same day, and then waiting for at least 4 days before eating the again. This prevents the development of new allergies to foods. Another benefit is it can help identify allergies to foods that may not have been diagnosed before. If new, allergy-causing foods are identified, they should be eliminated from the diet temporarily. A rotation diet allows the eating of foods that one may have a mild allergy; however, these may need to be rotated at longer intervals than other foods. This type of diet may be a seem like a big undertaking, but as with anything, one can get used to it after some time. A rotation diet is highly nutritious, in addition to giving the least chance for an allergic reaction [7]. |
